This blog post will focus on some simple things you can begin to do today to get started promoting your small business with Social Media. For local businesses in the New York City and Long Island areas, focused Social Media Marketing can help you generate interested prospects for your products and services, and ultimately convert them to leads.

Having been the buzzword for the last several years, Social Media is everywhere, and not going away. So for small businesses, if you've been ignoring it, here's a wake up call: You cannot compete without it.
But there's some good news: you can start using Social Media to promote your business today.
Theres a few key things you need to do, but ones that are the foundation for jumping in and joining the conversation that is already happening, and that your prospects and clients are likely already listening to.
1. Don't Wait - Get Started today.
- Open a personal Facebook account if you dont have one,
then create a page for your business. You can easily keep the two separate.
- Open a Twitter account that you use for business only,
the user name can be the business or your personal name
2. Ask the people you already know to "Like" your business page.
- If you already have a Facebook account, you should have some friends already. Once your business page is setup and you have filled out some info there, post that page to your personal wall, and invite everyone to check it out and "Like" it.
- If you're on Facebook for the first time, email the link to your
business contacts, family and friends. It is likely most are already using Facebook. Ask them to "Like" your page as well.
3. For Twitter, seek out people in your industry and follow them.
- Monitor what people are talking about, and see what you can add to the conversation.
- Begin to "retweet" things that you find interesting.
- Post a few links to other blogs or website articles about things concerning your industry.
4. Be patient.
- It takes time to build a following, so hang in there. You will not get a huge following overnight. Build trust & credibiltiy in your brand and eventually people will spread the word for you.
